![]() ![]() In VW's maintenance shedule, why is it the Turbo is 5k, and all others are 10k? TDI's have a turbo, both engines I'm guessing have very similar tolerances, bearings, lifters, etc. If my fuel had the chance of not being as effective as it was when new, and could possibly be doing long term damage to my engine, I probably would, as for wasting natural resources, please! Ya Ya, I know the recomendations, and have read many a forum but until someone tells me that my engine will blow up, or VW will void my engine warranty because I changed it too often, then I'm not listening. I also plan on changing intervals of 2.5k, 5k, and then every 5 until USLD is widely available, and 505.01 full synthetics are out there. Anyone else find it cheaper anywhere, including the shipping costs? I found an e-bay site that sells ELF DID for $6.50 for 18 litres and free shipping, but I really dont want all that oil hanging around for 6 -8 months only to save 10 bucks. I still plan on doing them myself with ELF DID oil and a Tempo Oil Boy and Napa Gold filters. This is cheaper than I can buy the stuff for. $40.50 seems worth it, as long as you stand over them and make sure they put the right oil in, and use a good grade filter. I was also quoted 7 bucks for each litre of ELF DID (505.01) 35 for the 5L Jug. I was just quoted $40.50 for oil and filter change at the Dover NH Prompto location. ![]() Prices for Prompto 505.01 oil changes ELF oil ![]() From what I have heard about the 506.01 I'm confused how one of the best oils for protection is used as an effective break in oil. I read somewhere that VW ships the 1.9's with 506.01 oil for the first 5k. AND with the price of the 505.01 and 506.01 oils, I think my checkbook will help that issue quickly. I'm a little skeptical of the 10,000 mile oil change, but I will have to adapt. I'm a product of a 50's generation dad who swears by the 3000 mile conventional oil change for gassers. After watching the video using the 6 qt oil extraction kit and ease of the oil filter change I will be hard pressed to let someone else pour oil all over my car anymore. I'm just psyched they will be selling the oil. Granted Jiffy lube entices you with their coupons and vacuum the carpet, wash the exterior windows etc. Jiffy lube for my truck was 33+ Prompto was 20. Wonder what the prices will be like.Īs for service, they are a no frills or thrills place with reasonable prices. Per the manager of the Dover, New Hampshire Prompto, ELF oils will be sold directly to the consumer. Reportedly, ELF lubricants will also soon be available at SUNOCO gas stations in Conneticut. If anyone reading this has used "Prompto" please feel free to post your experiences.Ģ80 Washington Street, Claremont, N.H. I have never even heard of "Prompto 10 Minute Oil Change" before receiving this info and have no idea about the quality of their work. Theoretically, they will also sell you these VW approved oils directly so you can change it yourself. I personally recommend changing your oil yourself (and using some of the money you save to have your used oil lab analyzed - see my signature), but if you're in a hurry, you should at least be able to get oils approved to the VW specs your TDI requires at these locations.
